How We Chose the Top 250
With more than 19 million titles available on ThriftBooks, narrowing the list to 250 books was no small thing.
To build this list, we looked beyond a simple bestseller ranking. We considered the books readers keep buying, rating, recommending, and returning to over time. The result is a list of reader favorites with real staying power, from classics and classroom staples to modern favorites, book club picks, and genre-defining series.
Sales Matter
A great ranking starts with what readers actually choose. Sales helped us identify the books that consistently find their way into carts, shelves, classrooms, book clubs, and bedside stacks.
Staying Power
Some books have a big moment. Others keep finding new readers year after year. We gave weight to books with long-term demand, not just short-term popularity.
Reader Love
The best books are not only bought. They are loved. Reader ratings helped us understand which titles continue to satisfy the people who pick them up.
One Book Per Series
To make room for more authors, genres, and reading experiences, we limited the list to one book per series. Some series could have taken over the rankings on their own, but where’s the fun in that?
Together, these factors helped us find the 250 books that rose above the rest.
