Words Fail To Describe…

I absolutely LOVED this book! Seriously sharp and hilariously intelligent take on a man facing down what appears to be certain death. For the pearl-clutchers out there, THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR YOU. The language is NSFW, and is used throughout. That doesn’t detract from it for me; rather the opposite. Nevertheless, it’s worth noting to help the author avoid bogus 1-star reviews for such a ridiculous reason. Andy Weir is really quite good at capturing the audience with both a character’s humanity, and the kind of scientific detail that most among us (myself included) couldn’t begin to fathom without description. I find his work utterly fascinating. The level of detail he curates, without making it too technical for others to understand, is phenomenal. I cannot recommend his work highly enough!

Read This Whole Book In Two Days

Enjoyed the read and after watching the movie, was pleased how close the two were. There are some nuances the book offers that was more enjoyable, but both are really good. Pacing is fast on the book and easy to burn through once you start. Book came without dust jacket. That was disappointing, but overall still a good purchase.

Potatoes

A bit too heavy on the science part of science fiction. I couldn't get past the first 30ish pages. Seemed like it was just potato math for the first bit..Just not my type of book I guess.

Science fiction as it was meant to be!

An incredible take on the primary conflict of individual vs. nature. The journalistic entries were a great method for storytelling. The protagonist was extremely likable. The story is downright cool. The science is out of this world and cutting edge. Perhaps the only thing missing is the story element that makes a sci-fi novel more than just that--the book doesn't really leave us with a lot of questions or things to think about. There is not much philosophy to be found here. It is just an action-packed story that takes place in a setting we don't often read about. Perfect for Hollywood (which did a fine job adapting it). To me this is kind of like "sci-fi lite". That's not to say that the science in the book is "light", just that it really wasn't that substantial (physically) or "deep" (mentally) of a book. I don't mean that as a criticism, just an observation.

Extraordinary story

One of the most incredible books I've read. I could not put down. The movie was great too- very different but good in its own way.

Excellent condition. Fast shipping. Absolute amazing read ❤️

Book was read on a recommendation and omg absolutely amazing! Book was in like new condition and the shipping was fast! Highly recommend

Loved it!

I like how this is written in diary/log format. Not going to give spoilers but everyone should buy this book! I could not put it down! ❤❤❤❤❤

This is a well-written, carefully plotted castaway-type book. Excellent in all respects. I started it in the morning, and finished it the same day because it was that good. Get this- you won't regret it.

Great Book!

I am a high school science teacher and I loved this book. We are currently watching the movie in class and discussing the science behind Watney's struggle to survive on Mars. If you aren't science inclined, it is still a really great story of survival and problem-solving. The main character is funny and easy to relate to. My students have asked to borrow the book after watching the movie, which is a testament to just how engrossing the story is.
