Book Overview

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive--and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he...

A bit too heavy on the science part of science fiction. I couldn't get past the first 30ish pages. Seemed like it was just potato math for the first bit..Just not my type of book I guess.

Science fiction as it was meant to be!

An incredible take on the primary conflict of individual vs. nature. The journalistic entries were a great method for storytelling. The protagonist was extremely likable. The story is downright cool. The science is out of this world and cutting edge. Perhaps the only thing missing is the story element that makes a sci-fi novel more than just that--the book doesn't really leave us with a lot of questions or things to think about. There is not much philosophy to be found here. It is just an action-packed story that takes place in a setting we don't often read about. Perfect for Hollywood (which did a fine job adapting it). To me this is kind of like "sci-fi lite". That's not to say that the science in the book is "light", just that it really wasn't that substantial (physically) or "deep" (mentally) of a book. I don't mean that as a criticism, just an observation.

Extraordinary story

One of the most incredible books I've read. I could not put down. The movie was great too- very different but good in its own way.

Excellent condition. Fast shipping. Absolute amazing read ❤️

Book was read on a recommendation and omg absolutely amazing! Book was in like new condition and the shipping was fast! Highly recommend

Loved it!

I like how this is written in diary/log format. Not going to give spoilers but everyone should buy this book! I could not put it down! ❤❤❤❤❤

This is a well-written, carefully plotted castaway-type book. Excellent in all respects. I started it in the morning, and finished it the same day because it was that good. Get this- you won't regret it.

Great Book!

I am a high school science teacher and I loved this book. We are currently watching the movie in class and discussing the science behind Watney's struggle to survive on Mars. If you aren't science inclined, it is still a really great story of survival and problem-solving. The main character is funny and easy to relate to. My students have asked to borrow the book after watching the movie, which is a testament to just how engrossing the story is.
