Decent but very brief guide to programming NT internals
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 26 years ago
This is strictly a programming "HOW-TO" guide book . It does not go too deeply into Windows NT architecture and eventually you will need to look elsewhere. It cuts to the chase and shows you how to write very basic NT system applicaitons (NT service, RPC, Device Drivers, etc.).One problem with this book are the sample codes provided on a 3.5 disk: They are far from being robust and are written in Borland C/C++ some of which did not translate very well into VC++ 5.0. MAKE files are few and there is no README documentation as to compile the code. The sample NT service code works fine: the problem was that there is no discussion nor sample provided as how to delete that service from within your application. What became typical of this book is that I had to do further outside research.Despite these peeves, I recommend it for those that need a very quick jump start into NT programming. With this basic knowledge, you can now move on towards more advance technical sources.
