El Dorado grows, with cocoa and coffee: Systematization of a project to improve the quality and productivity of cocoa and coffee in the Peruvian jungle

The project "Strengthening the Cocoa and Coffee Production Chain in El Dorado Province - San Mart n", implemented through the Interinstitutional Cooperation Agreement between the National Commission for Development and Drug-Free Life and the Provincial Municipality of El Dorado under the PIRDAIS Budget Program, has been very valuable for the development of agriculture. The importance of this project lies in the transfer of the technological package that has allowed 1,371 cocoa producers to reach productive yields of 400kg/ha to 1,200kg/ha; in the case of coffee, 651 producers have increased their production from 8qq/ha to 26qq/ha. This is a good thing because it will allow producers to obtain higher incomes with higher production and better prices. The business articulation of the producers is another important aspect to highlight and is a consequence of the progress made at the production level. At the end of the project, the commercialization of conventional cocoa reached 176,898 kilos for an amount of S/. 1'559,304.34 soles; and cocoa with UTZ certification, the sale was 137,121 kilos for a value of S/. 1'220,463.17 soles.
