This is an excellent book on C++, although I have newer books published After the ANSI Standardisation of C++, Mark Terribile's book gives a much more detailed explanation of the basics of C++. The book explains the mechanisms of constructors, object initialisation, and inheritance far better than other books I have seen. The ONLY reason I don't give this book 5 stars, is that it is Pre ANSI C++, and doesn't cover the STL, or other late additions to ANSI C++, such as Run Time Type Identification. PLEASE I want a New Edition of this Book!
Provides details that go beyond the usual trivial examples.

A great reference. It goes much into much deeper detail than most c++ texts. The examples, especially for templates and iostreams, demonstrate difficult to understand applications beyond the trivial examples most texts focus on. The appendices are also excellent.
A comprehensive refrence

Not a first or second C++ book, but interesting examples. I love it as a reference. Appendix D is unmatched in any other text. I want a second edition!
