How does the Literacy Day offer work?
Purchase a qualifying book from any participating GiftList on our Literacy Day page on September 8. ThriftBooks will match qualifying GiftList purchases with books donated to literacy initiatives and charities across the U.S.
Eligible customers with a ThriftBooks account can also receive 1 FREE BOOK Reward.
How do I find a participating educator?
Use the classroom search on our Literacy Day page to search participating educators by name or location, then select the GiftList you'd like to support.

How do I support a Little Free Library?
Select Explore Little FREE Library GiftLists to return to the Support a Little Free Library section.
From there, you can browse participating libraries and search by library name or location then shop directly from the library's GiftList.
How do I receive my FREE BOOK Reward?
To receive the FREE BOOK Reward, you must participate using the email address associated with your ThriftBooks account and complete a qualifying GiftList purchase during the Literacy Day offer.
ThriftBooks will add the FREE BOOK Reward directly to eligible customers' accounts.
When will I receive my FREE BOOK Reward?
FREE BOOK Rewards will be added to eligible customers' ThriftBooks accounts no later than September 16, 2026.
How long will my FREE BOOK Reward be valid?
Your FREE BOOK Reward will be valid for 30 days from the date it is added to your ThriftBooks account.
The expiration date will be based on the date the reward enters your account, not the date of your Literacy Day purchase.
Which books qualify for the Literacy Day offer?
Any qualifying book purchased from a participating GiftList presented on our Literacy Day page during the promotional period qualifies for the offer.
Is there a limit to how many FREE BOOK Rewards I can receive?
Yes. Eligible customers may receive a maximum of 1 FREE BOOK Reward.
Additional qualifying GiftList purchases may still help support participating educators, libraries, and the Literacy Day matching effort, but they will not generate additional FREE BOOK Rewards.
Where will the books I purchase go?
The books you purchase from a GiftList will go directly to the educator, classroom, or library you chose to support.
For example, if you purchase a book from a participating educator's GiftList, that book will be sent to the destination associated with that GiftList.
What does ThriftBooks match?
For qualifying GiftList purchases made during the Literacy Day offer, ThriftBooks will match the giving with books donated to The Book Fairies, helping extend the impact of Literacy Day to additional readers.
That means your purchase can help support the GiftList you choose while also helping extend the impact of Literacy Day to additional readers.
Can I purchase books from more than one GiftList?
Yes. You are welcome to support more than one participating GiftList.
Each order can only ship to one GiftList destination, so books from different GiftLists may need to be placed in separate orders.
Keep in mind that eligible customers can receive a maximum of 1 FREE BOOK Reward.
Do I need a ThriftBooks account to participate?
You may support a participating GiftList without a ThriftBooks account.
However, a ThriftBooks account is required to receive the FREE BOOK Reward because the reward must be added directly to your account.
GiftList purchases can still help support the Literacy Day matching effort even if the purchaser is not eligible for the FREE BOOK Reward.
What organizations will receive ThriftBooks donated books?
ThriftBooks will donate the matched books to The Book Fairies, a nonprofit organization that helps distribute books to communities and readers in need.
These additional donations will help The Book Fairies put more books into more hands and expand access to reading beyond the classrooms and Little Free Libraries supported through the Literacy Day GiftLists.
How long is the Literacy Day offer available?
The Literacy Day promotional offer is available on September 8 only.
Participating GiftLists may remain available after International Literacy Day, so customers can continue supporting educators and libraries even after the one-day offer ends.
Are these real teachers and Little Free Library stewards?
Yes. All participating educators are verified school or homeschool teachers, and participating Little Free Library stewards are verified stewards with the Little Free Library organization.
