THE LITTLE PIONEERS was written and almost entirely filmed in the mid-1970s - and then never released. Now, for the first time, Verland T Whipple's lost frontier screenplay is available to read.
When an Indian raiding party attacks their wagon train, siblings Jeb and Ellie Carter are separated from their parents in the chaos and left stranded in the wilderness. With their family's fate unknown, the two children set out on foot to find their way back - and what should be a short journey becomes a months-long fight for survival. They cross deserts and rivers, evade pursuit, brave a mountain blizzard, and depend on each other more than either ever imagined possible, before a chance encounter with a solitary old mountain man changes everything.
Told in Whipple's original shooting-script format exactly as he wrote it - right down to a handwritten note made during production for a scene they never got the chance to finish - THE LITTLE PIONEERS is both an adventure story and a genuine piece of unproduced film history.
