In the quiet town of Oakcrest, Freddy Foster and Rusty Hobbs are just ordinary kids - until they stumble onto local businessman Sidney Spangler's biggest secret. What starts as harmless hush money for candy and toys turns into something far more dangerous when the boys realize Sidney is mixed up in a scheme that could ruin the whole town.

Determined to find out what's really going on, Freddy and Rusty follow Sidney to a secret meeting - and discover a shadowy operator named Mr. Smith, a land syndicate, and a plot to sabotage local businesses and buy up Oakcrest out from under everyone's feet. But eavesdropping on criminals has its risks, and when the boys are caught, Mr. Smith makes it clear that loose ends don't get to just walk away.

Tied up in an abandoned house with a syndicate enforcer standing guard, Freddy and Rusty have to keep their heads - and hope somebody finds them before it's too late.
