Born Neil Richard Gaiman in Hampshire, UK in 1960. Originally a journalist, Gaiman has written biographies, graphic novels, comics, poetry, screenplays, song lyrics, and drama. His fictional works encompass picture books and stories for children as well as adult novels. Many of his works have become best sellers. Coraline was adapted into a BAFTA award-winning animated film in 2009. Gaiman has won numerous honors, including the British Science Fiction, Hugo, Nebula, and Bram Stoker awards. He was the first author to win both the Newbery and the Carnegie medals for a single book, The Graveyard Book. The Ocean at the End of the Lane was voted Book of the Year in the British National Book Awards in 2013.
