Avatar: The Last Airbender – Smoke and Shadow Part Two takes place inside the Jasmine Dragon, where Aang and his Air Acolytes meditate. It’s funny how Jingbo meditates so well that he falls asleep. Aang thanks Iroh for allowing him and his friends to use Iroh’s tea shop. Sokka and Katara enter the tea shop to speak about their trip plans. All three are excited to visit the South Pole for different reasons. However, Aang cannot accompany them because Zuko sends a messenger hawk to ask for help. Katara is disappointed but tells Aang to help Zuko. Aang reunites with Zuko and Mai. Aang misunderstands Zuko and Mai’s relationship, but Zuko clarifies that Kei Lo is Mai’s boyfriend. Aang is visibly awkward in this situation but quickly learns why Zuko requested the Avatar’s assistance. Aang gets acquainted with Constable Sung, the leader investigator of Tom-Tom’s kidnapping. Ukano storms into the room, interrupting the briefing and declaring it’s Mai’s fault that Tom-Tom wasn’t safe. Kei Lo defends Mai. Aang tries to defuse the situation, but Ukano shifts the blame to Zuko for not having a backbone and doing what is necessary for the Fire Nation. Ukano proposes a curfew and a task force to keep the citizens safe. Aang suggests they learn more about what happened to Tom-Tom before they act, and Zuko and Mai support Aang. When Zuko commands Constable Sung to escort Ukano outside, Ukano declares Zuko an impostor. Zuko asks Mai if Ukano was a part of the New Ozai Society attack because he recognizes his voice. Mai denies any knowledge of Ukano being a member of the New Ozai Society. Aang declares he needs to know more about the Kemurikage. Zuko believes he knows where they can discover the Kemurikage’s history. When they are alone, Kei Lo asks why Mai lied to Zuko. Mai claims she wants Tom-Tom to be safe with Ukano, but he can’t protect Tom-Tom inside a prison cell. Ukano warns Constable Sung about Zuko’s lack of action and the dark spirits stealing children. It could happen to Constable Sung’s son, Guri. Noren, Ursa, and Kiyi pass by the scene between the two men. Kiyi still clings to Noren and yells at Ursa, demanding she stop grabbing her because of her cold hands. Essentially, it comes down to Kiyi believing that Ursa is not her mother because she has a different face than Kiyi is used to seeing each day. It’s such a sad situation. Hopefully, that will change in the last book of this trilogy. Appa flies Aang, Zuko, Mai, and Kei Lo to the Fire Sages Capital Temple. Mai complains that Zuko thinks it is romantic to share a meal over the burial of his family members. Zuko makes a smart-aleck comment about how it is romantic. They meet Fire Sage Shyu and ask him to open the entrance to the Dragonbone Catacombs. It’s hilarious how Zuko politely declines Fire Sage Shyu’s meditation classes, and Shyu is disappointed. While Aang, Zuko, Mai, and Kei Lo walk down the staircase leading to the Dragonbone Catacombs, Constable Sung talks about his work day with his wife. Constable Sung and his wife rush to their son’s room when they hear footsteps in the house. They discover the Kemurikage stealing Constable Sung’s son Guri. Despite the parents’ best attempts, the Kemurikage manages to escape with Guri. Meanwhile, Aang and Zuko use firebending to light their way down the long tunnels. Mai’s sarcastic comments throughout the whole scene are hilarious. The four discover murals depicting the history of the Fire Nation up until Fire Lord Sozin’s day. It ends with four dragon statues in front of a wall. Aang and Zuko firebend into the dragons’ mouths twenty times. Kei Lo and Mai try with Mai’s knives while Ursa overhears Suki and Ty Lee talk about the recent spike in Kemurikage appearances. Ursa rushes to Kiyi’s bedside to check on her and ensure her safety. Kei Lo helps Mai, and Zuko stares at them, obviously jealous. The wall opens to a passageway, and the four explore it. In the darkness, Constable Sung informs Ukano that multiple children in town, in
