A thinking woman's heroine

This book caught me up in the plot right away. A woman was kidnapped. No one was coming to her rescue. She wasn't exceptional in her looks so there was no reason to predict that she could try to use her "charms" to influence a rescue. Her kidnapper was issuing her orders but she didn't know if she should do what he said. He was confusing. He was also very handsome but she wasn't about to think well of him based upon what she knew. She tried to stick to her values and act accordingly. It was refreshing to see her work out for herself the hidden truths behind what was happening. She kept calm and didn't give up. People may complain of the journey to Portugal but that only deepened the mystery and allowed the woman to show how brave, intelligent, and insightful she was. I like a heroine who uses her head and a story that tries to keep a reader guessing. It is a good "read" for anyone who likes a romantic mystery.
