In addition to helping teachers set the appropriate environment for learning, this book addresses many other timely and helpful topics such as teaching for understanding, ongoing assessment, and planning for concept development. Also included are scenarios from classrooms to illustrate Kathy's points. This book should be a required textbook for every elementary perservice class!

It includes step-by-step instructions for setting up your classroom, choosing and managing activities, and creating a positive learning environment. It addresses important topics such as How long should children explore?, How do we know when to move on?, How do we transition from exploration to concept development? It is very thoughtfully written and is an excellent teacher guide.
