not that great

the book is written fine but the plot and what was supposed to be enticing just wasn't interesting to me at all. the ending wasn't really satisfying and I found it to be kinda cliché. I've read a lot better books with more twists so this was just okay.

Read the book - then watch the mini series!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Dives into multiple lives all intertwined with one another. Each character has pieces to love and hate.

Good exploration of family and self

Good book. Most of the characters were well-rounded and believably human. You didn't necessarily like or agree with some characters, but you also got a glimpse of the "why" and "how." I thought it was a fresh and real take on what family is, what love is, and how these things and more can shape who you are.

pretty good

this book was one that i finished pretty quickly, not because it was fantastic but because it was easy to get through. i’d recommend for younger people, 15 years old and younger. i’m 16 and it did not wow me like i’d assume it would have with a younger audience.

I didn't get the hyper over this book. Maybe it was just the timing of reading it, as I have recently read several great books.

An amazingly, complex, intertwined novel about family dynamics. LOVED THIS BOOK. I was so sad at the last few pages because I knew it was coming to an end. Wow. Just wow.

A fascinating read! We all have hidden layers, burdens, and back stories... and this novel paints a realistic and intricately blended portrait of how these secrets could play out.

Interesting story

I thought this book had a very interesting plot sprinkled with bits of mystery. Thoroughly enjoyed this. If you read it, you probably won’t like the Hulu series. They changed some things that I thought were very important to the story line.

Book club read

There was a lot of hype about this book on FB so we read it at book club. It was a bit disappointing mostly because the Moms failed to give their kids the attention they needed

Couldn't put this book down

What a great book! I was drawn to it because I had family who lived in Shaker Heights and the author's description was right on. Guess I'm not as fast a reader as some others but I was reading day and night to see what happened next. You could say the end is somewhat of a cliffhanger. Sure hope Celeste Ng is working on a sequel as I NEED to know what happened to Mia, Pearl, Mrs Richardson and her 3 kids.
