Book Overview

This no-nonsense, plain-English guide lays out the facts you need to maintain a healthy body.

Hypoglycemia simply means "low blood-sugar," but without concrete symptoms it's very hard to diagnose. It is nevertheless a condition that should be watched over carefully. People react differently to low blood sugar as well as to the treatment they receive. Hypoglycemia for Dummies explores this fickle condition and shows you how to...

Hypoglycemia Information From A Non-Diabetic Perspective

After much searching for a book that would focus in on hypoglycemia, I found Chow & Chow's book. Normally, I'm not big on the dummies series however, this particular book covers a wide range of information from diagnosis (and confirmation that you're not crazy) to helpful ways to "help" yourself combat the ups and downs of the rollercoaster ride. Typically, books on hypoglycemia are written from the perspective of diabetes or "how-to" weight loss. This book focuses in on the condition without passing judgement on any other condition that you may or may not have. Great beginner book!

I read this book as a refresher and cannot imagine a more in-depth explanation of hypoglycemia and how to deal with it--emotionally and physically for beginners. It does a great job of describing hypo and discussing the condition with friends and family. In addition, it helps explain what you should eat and when is the best time to do so. The only drawback I found was that the recipes included some of the things they say you should stay away from. However, after eating healthy and regularly, you will find that you can eat some of those things and not feel the effects. At the end of the day, you need to listen to your body and use the book as a tool. Finally, I would also recommend reading Body for Life by Bill Phillips. His diet is something that hypo can and should use. He delves into the many different types of proteins and carbohydrates. He also has a Body for Life cookbook that I use 3-4 times per week. His cookbook offers easy to make recipes that would surpise you to find the meals so nutritionally sound.

Outstanding!

A superb book, written with exceptional clarity that makes it simple to understand the difficult to understand and frequently misunderstood condition of hypoglycemia.Battling with a condition that requires moderate control of eating habits and exercise is never as easy as it sounds. Ms. Chow seems to realize this and has constructed "Hypoglycemia for Dummies" accordingly. The book contains bucketloads of information about leading a healthy lifestyle, as well as, perhaps most importantly, advice on setting up the support system needed to maintain that way of life. Highly recommended -- not just for hyoglycemics, but for anybody interested in living life to the fullest.

This book is excellent!

This book is hot off the press just a few months ago. I've bought it and I'd really recommend it. Clearly laid out, lots of quick lists and tips. Chapters on self-diagnosis, doctors diagnosis, and most importantly what you can do for yourself, step-by-step (mostly diet changes). This book has the potential to be a life-changer and I'd highly recommend it.

This book is excellent - and hot off the press

I've been looking everywhere for a practical and up to date book on hypoglycemia. This one has only been published since a few months ago and I thought I'd give it a try. And a good thing too! Like all the 'Dummies' series it is credible and well-organised, with the information clearly picked out and lots of helpful lists.Chow and Chow (the authors) take you through all the physical basis for hypoglycemia and how to recognise to what degree it affects you. But they also go on to give lots of helpful advice about diet, exercise, the effect on your moods, etc.I would really highly recommend this book. If you take it seriously and follow the advice it has the potential to be a real life-changer. good luck!
