Valuable information!

While I agree with several of the other reviewers that say that Chris Aceto needs a better English editor (he seems to have the common problem with homonyms that many people do, your vs you're), the content of the book far outweighs any annoying English errors. This book is not for the person who yoyo diets. This book is not for a person who eats up every weight-loss trend out there. This book contains very valuable and scientific information as to the hormonal background behind people who eat "healthy" but still have problems losing weight. If you've read South Beach, The Zone, Atkins, Look Great Naked, and basically "eat clean", but still have problems this book might have some answers for you. I would reccommend this book, as well as Body for Life/Eating for Life.

Cuts through weight loss hype

If you ever wondered why that low carb diet eventually stopped working or why that 1,000 calorie a day diet does not work for very long, this is the book for you. Understanding why your body chemistry does what it does is a revelation. All these diet books just lead you on. Diets do not work long term. You have to eat every 3 hours, eat adequate protein and not too much carbs to lose weight. Weight lifting is more effective for weight loss than aerobics! Low carb diets shut down your thyroid long term. Many people stay on these things, get more irritable by the day and do not lose weight. I enjoyed the scientific explanation of thermogenesis. I won't ever be hoodwinked again. Feed your body right, lift weights. I hope the word spreads.. The only downside of this book is the author's complete unawareness of the word "affect". He uses the word "effect" throughout the book. It drove me nuts! He also does not know about you're vs. your. I guess it is not his job to know grammar. The editor of the book should have read it instead of just doing a spellcheck. Otherwise, a very good book.

A as in A-Plus!

Now here's a gem, a never cease to amaze you little fountain of knowledge you HAVE TO HAVE. Why? This author spells it all out...how calories are not always calories, how different types of carbs can make you fat, how lo carb diets work and how high carb diets work. WHich one is best? Depends on you! The author covers weight training. Specifically why it is BETTER than aerobics for melting away the pounds and supplements that can help you shed fat. Most important, the author is not PUSHING anything- a diet- a supplement, nothing is being hawked or shoved down the readers throat! That , I appreciate. No bars, drinks, meal replacement drinks or stupid diet pills. All you get is real world dieting info, how it works and how to use it. I can't say enough about this book. Its one heck of a read.

Excellent

I have been a personal trainer for years and I own a sports supplement store. This is the best book I have ever read on fat loss. It is very well written and it's like Chris is sitting there talking to you. It really does have all the info you could want about fat loss presented in laymens terms. Totally worth the money.

easy read

Ok, this book has its plusses and minusses. The plusses:great info, preseted in a easy to read and comprehensive fashion. It covers quite a bit in regards to the effect of insulin and simple sugars on body fat. The author also does a nice job explaining how exactly to follow a low carb diet as well as how to follow a high carb, very low fat diet. The minus: He's a little hedgy here in that he never really gives his opinions regarding what fat loss plan is best or ideal. He leaves that up to the reader to make his own decision. While I can appreciate he may have wanted to cover several topics and to leave the choice open to the reader, I think, with his knowledge in the field, he has done the reader an injustice by not being exactly clear which diet is best.Overall, enjoyed the book, was pleased and impressed and am putting a "strong buy" recommendation on it.
