CHIKATETSU: KEY TO IT ALL!

Code of Dishonor (Mack Bolan #99) Gold Eagle Author: Mike McQuay Mack Bolan 99 takes place in Japan, in the area of Tokyo mostly between Yokota and Tachikawa U.S. Air Force bases. It involves the Japanese story of the 47 Ronin with modern day bushido, way of the warrior, and honor among men. I lived in Japan for 25 months and this book really brought back many familiar sites and memories for me. Such things as the Tokyo Tower or the train trip to Mount Fuji and the sulphur pits overlooking the main lake in that area are all places and sites I've seen. No way I could not enjoy this book. Essentially this is a story of cocaine smuggling, but the plot goes much deeper to a Japanese war lord wanting revenge for the bombs dropped at both Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He intends to take out California with a nuclear device, and is well on the way to realizing this goal as he and Mack Bolan cross each other's paths. Things become rather complicated, however, when Mack and Hashi-san's daughter, Junko, fall in love. Death reigns supreme and the story must play itself out in the most unforseen manner. But Mack Bolan will not harm innocent people and must always be true to his mission of good against evil. I recall reading a review that stated this book starts off well but drops off. For me, nothing could be farther from the truth, as this is one of the better books I've read in the entire Executioner series. The action is well spaced out and a smooth tempo continues from begining to final page. Along the way we find our way into 'chikatetsu' a secret underground area packed full of Zero airplanes, weapons, and supplies left from World War Two. How all of this and the 'Sonnojoi', killers with shotguns, turns out, you will need to read this exciting book. A well written addition to the Mack Bolan series released back in March, 1987 that still reads very well today. Semper Fi.
