another great book by Ann Rinaldi!

This book is about Sarah and it begins in Watertown, MA in the summer after her father's famous ride. Sarah relives the past two years (which is most of the book) and learns a very important lesson. I liked this book because; 1) I love the way Ann Rinaldi brings history to life in an interesting way. 2) Sarah's lesson is one that we can use in our everyday lives today. Great book for teen girls. Read it!

A Great Tale of Secrets

In this exciting historical novel, thirteen-year-old Sarah Revere tells her story of the events that take place in Boston at the beginning of the Revolutionary War. Sarah is the daughter of the famous Paul Revere, who takes late night rides off to unknown places keeping his family wondering in fear. His family knows that he rides off to send messages to fellow Patriots, and they also know how much trouble he can get in for his work against the King. As the story continues, Sarah and her brother Paul bring home a young woman named Rachel, with whom their father falls in love and eventually marries since the children's mother died a few years before. Sarah likes Rachel at first, but when her older sister Debbie shares her suspicions of Rachel and another Patriot, Doctor Joseph Warren's, relationship of being more than a friendship, Sarah begins to have her own suspicions, too. One evening, Mr. Revere and the other Patriots in Boston dump the tea off of the ships at the harbor. This causes British troups to move in and take control of the city. It is very exciting and scary as Mr. Revere continues to ride off into the night to tell of the activities in Boston. When he rides to Lexington, there are rumors of him seeing who fired the first shot of the war, but he will not tell anyone. He tells his family to move to a house outside of Boston because the city is getting too dangerous. When he joins them he will not tell anyone the secret that he holds and is determined to take it with him to the grave. Sarah has a fight with Doctor Warren, who she has loved all along, accusing him of his feelings for Rachel. She tries to make up with him, but cannons are being fired and he cannot hear her. It is an emotional tale of secrets and love as Doctor Warren dies and Sarah feels as though she holds a secret that she, too, must carry with her to the grave. This book is very exciting and by telling the story in first person, the author really keeps things interesting. The reader knows all of Sarah's thoughts and feelings, and at the end of the book they feel as though they have made a great new friend. The Secret of Sarah Revere is a fantastic novel that is great for people of any age.

Pretty good

Like all of Ann Rinaldi's books, I found that i could not put this one down. I have a very bad habit of judging books by their covers.I bought the American copy, and the picture wasn't very appealing. The back summary was kind of bad, but i read it anyways cuz i kow Ann Rinaldi is a very gifted writer. And I loved the book. But i thought that at the end the "secret" of Sarah was kinda lame, cuz i read the end again like, 15 times and i still didn't figure it out. But overall it was an awesome book, good for any fan of historical fiction.

A suprisingly good read

Okay, I must admit. When I first read the back of this book in the bookstore I thought "Nah, not for me" but on a chance I bought it. Its alot deeper than the summary on the back makes it seem, and alot more interesting. I got home that day and from the first page I was engrossed. This review alone should tell you that, I don't remeber taking time to write a reveiw about a book that I only liked a little bit, which is not the case with this. Since that fateful day that I first bought it (probably 6 months to a year ago) I have read it 3-5 more times, and plan to read it again soon. I thoroughly reccommend this to everyone who enjoys a good story, particularily historical fiction fans.

A must read

The Secret of Sarah Revere, is a must read. This book is for anyone who likes historical fiction with added suspense. While some of the dialog is a bit tricky to grasp, the way that the author portrays Sarah, the daughter of Paul Revere, is outstanding. Ms. Rinaldi depicts a young women coming of age brilliantly. To understand this book you do not need to be a history scholar, which is another thing I loved about this book. So pick this book up and read it , because you will never forget how good it is.
