The easiest and the most effective diet that I ever tried

Everyone who is concerned with her weight knows how difficult it is to shed those 5-10 lb and then keep them away. In the past I had tried various diets, including the all protein diet and the cabbage soup diet. They worked for me somehow, but in the process of dieting, I often experienced physical weakness, hightened irritability, and poor ability to concentrate. QOD Diet turned out to be the one that, in fact, made me feel better both physically and emotionally. I lost 10 lb in about three weeks without experiencing any discomfort at all. Moreover, I found this diet to be enjoyable. So did my husband - he too lost 10 lb. The book is well written, and every insight offered by the author has been true to my experience so far. The diet is simple, easy to follow, and well explained. Many thanks to the author, Dr. Daugirdas!

QOD diet

I bought this book using a version of the QOD diet from a magazine article for about a month. I have been very pleased with the results of the diet and find it relatively easy to follow. I would particularly recommend this book to those looking to lose rather than gain weight this holiday season while still partaking in some holiday feasting. Even if the reader does not find the actual diet to work with his or her lifestyle, there is a lot of interesting information on nutrition in the book.

This is a great book. It gets into all of the nitty gritty of the diet. This book also provides you with alternatives in the event you don't like or unable to eat certain foods, there are other items for you to choose from.

Not for everyone

Dr. John T. Daugirdas, a retired kidney specialist, shares the diet he uses in The QOD Diet: Eating Well Every Other Day. QOD stands for quaqua (Latin for "every") other day. The diet calls for the dieter to eat regularly one day while doing a semi-fast of 300-400 calories the next. Daugirdas stresses that the diet has not been rigorously tested, and he sets strict guidelines to limit who tries it: a healthy person with less than twenty-five pounds to lose, between the ages of twenty and sixty, who likes tomatoes and other vegetables, who has no diabetes, heart disease, anorexia, bulimia, kidney disease, hypertension, stroke or stroke-related conditions. Dieters must also be able to take sodium and potassium supplements without problems with their medications. Mainstays of the diet include taking vegetable juices that are high in potassium and supply adequate sodium to keep the dieter from feeling weak, supplements for valuable nutrients and fiber, and limiting calories on the day "off." By taking food but keeping the portions low every other day, the doctor believes that you will be able to prevent the body's starvation defense mechanism from kicking in. The fiber keeps you from constipation. He also promotes exercise, taking adequate amounts of water, and not bingeing during the "on" days. Daugirdas writes for a general audience, rather than for Christians in particular. He refers to the spiritual benefits of the diet for specific religious backgrounds, such as Catholic, Protestant, Buddhist, Hindu, and others. He also refers to a sense of "Zen peacefulness" that he acquires on the diet when eating is not demanding much of his attention. Being a specialist does not mean that he writes in "medicalese." The book is readable and easy to understand, straightforward and focused. Though he does not include many anecdotes, he does give the readers excerpts from his blog while he used the diet.
