Lainie has no dreams left. Lainie Gardner dreamed of becoming a nurse. Of serving her country. Of doing something important in the war. But rheumatic fever changed all that, and instead of running... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Sandhill Dreams is a sweet WWII romance by Cara C. Putman. It is second in the Nebraska Brides series, but can easily be read as a stand-alone story. Having lived in Nebraska for a number of years, I was looking forward to reading this and was not disappointed. Although not on the war-front, the story brought out interesting things about the war. I especially enjoyed hearing about the training of dogs for combat as I had not ever read about that before. Engaging, believable characters, broken dreams, growing faith in the midst of fears and disappointments, and a captivating romance--Sandhill Dreams has it all. Cecily White does a great job narrating the book, giving voice to the characters and their story, making for an enjoyable listening experience. I won a copy of the audiobook version of Sandhill Dreams in a contest and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.

The second book in the series. A great WWII series. It brings you to a new area on how the war was fought and how everyday Americans helped in that effort. I never new dogs were used. Great to know about that. The way Ms. Putman portrayed perseverance over hardship make you see that with the right kind of help you can accomplish much. The anxious moments during the war were profound and kept me on my toes. A great read for anyone who loves historical romanic novels. Looking forward to more from this author.
Very Interesting Tale

During WWII there were camps in Nebraska that trained dogs as fellow fighters and protectors. Lainie Gardner, desiring to be a nurse but waylaid by an illness, moves to Fort Robinson to help the war effort as best she can. She views the training of these fine pets as well as exercises for the soldiers that will be shipped overseas shortly. One trainer, Tom Hamilton, catches her eyes the most. Will a romance ensue or will their differences make that impossible? Also discussed is rheumatic fever and having been afflicted with this at 5, so many questions I had about being hospitalized for months and carried everywhere I went when I returned home, was deftly discussed in Ms. Putman's book. This is a fine read and everyone who likes historical romances should avail themselves of this lovely little book.
