Vivid wording and perfect dialogue

I loved this book. The author did a fantastic job of developing the characters and creating the tension in the conflicts. Captive Dreams truly held me captive. I love Cara's unique way of spinning words into an artful sentence. Her colorful descriptions and vivid dialogue are masterful. One of my favorite parts of the book is where we learn that Anna, the heroine, prays over the parachutes she's packing for the soldiers. Love it! Great storyline with some unique twists and excellent writing!

Captivated by Cara

I thoroughly enjoyed this Heartsong Presents story. It took me back to a different time. I know it was a hard time in our history, but in a way I think it was an easier time. My mom and dad were born in 1944 so it gave me an idea what life might have been like for my grandma during wartime. The women who packed parachutes, like Anna, were a blessing to the service men. As for the men, I'm sure it was hard for servicemen to leave the women they loved and their families. Anna was torn between home and serving her country to make a living. Spc. Sid Chance was serving his country, but not how he thought he'd be, driving German prisoners to farms to work the land. Anna's family farm happened to be one of the farms Sid drove prisoners to work. Anna also had to deal with a depressed, angry, alcoholic father. Anna wanted to serve her country, but her father made her feel terrible when she came home to work the farm and again when she left to go back to work for the week. Sid tries to reach out to Anna, but she has so much on her plate, is there room for him in her strained life? Will Sid be able to put up Anna and all the emotions running through her? This wasn't what he signed up for, was it? This is my first book by Cara C. Putman and now am a huge fan! This story was very endearing and a sweet read.

Captive Dreams

Captive Dreams is a story about letting go of control and allowing God to lead your life's course. In this book, you will follow Anna Goodman and Sid Chance, two characters who are stubborn enough to try and walk their own path and not God's. Anna feels like she needs to fix everything. The farm is falling apart. She'll take care of it. There's a war going on. She'll stuff parachutes for the boys overseas. Her father is sunk into a deep depression. She'll bring him out, some way, some how. Sid also has trouble seeing God's plan for his life, and mostly his troubles involved a certain lady who can get under his skin faster than anything. Cara Putman writes beautifully. Her descriptions and images pushed me along in a 1940's world where I cheered and despaired for Anna and Sid's triumphs and challenges. Ms. Putman makes it easy to read and get involved with her characters. I highly recommend Captive Dreams!!

Captive Dreams

CAPTIVE DREAMS is one of the newer Heartsong Presents to come out. I'm not sure how Heartsong is marketing it - as historical or contemporary - but since the story happens when my mother was young and before I was born, I'm going to classify it as historical. Set during World War II, this period is one of my favorite war time periods to read about. This story has an air of depression about it at first, as Anna is dragged down by the life situations around her. Still, I hoped that everything would work out for Anna and her family, that her brother would be found alive, her dad would come out of his depression, and that Anna might find that there is a silver lining in the clouds after all. If you enjoy WWII fiction, this would be a good book to read. There is a lot of real life in it.

A wonderful book

This book was a great tie in with the first two of the series. I was totally amazed on how much we relied on prisoners of war to help us keep producing our crops. To think hiring a German prisoner to help you plant and harvest your farm or you would go under. Imagine the unbleieveable stress the Americans and prisoners went through since trust was such a huge issue. I was intrigued by the way this story was laid out. Women working away from home, but still trying to maintain a home even if they worked in another town. Besides having the concerns for loved ones overseas. Learning to lean and trust on others becomes a bigger issue in this story then the heroine wants to allow. See her stuggle to maintain the family farm, work in another town, and try to see her need for trust and friendships.
