A story of perseverance, dedication and the power of the mind to move football players

Denny Westbrook is a small young man who loves to play quarterback. He attends Sutton State University in Texas and joined the football team as a walk-on. Very intelligent, his goal is to become a football coach. Denny is in his senior season and the quarterback for the scout team, running the plays of the opposition so that the defense can see what they will be facing in the next game. Sutton State is a football powerhouse, their quarterback is an All-American and they challenge for the national title each year. Suddenly, disaster strikes in a sequence of three events. The star quarterback is suspended for rules violations and the next two quarterbacks are injured. This leaves only Denny to quarterback the team in the next game. Given his small size and lack of skills, Denny uses his mind and comes up with a series of strategic steps, each of which will gain them a slight advantage. Through it all, Denny keeps his mind on the game and he manages to score the winning touchdown in the closing minutes. What makes this book different from many others in the area of sports fiction is the emphasis on the intellectual aspects of football. Denny is a thinker, his ideas are so good that even the veteran coach of the team is willing to implement them. It is also a story about perseverance and believing in yourself, even when the likelihood of success appears small.

Denny leads his team to the championship and leads them to victory. What I liked most about the book: The overall story, and the fact that i love football. What I didnt like about the book and why: I didnt like how the book didnt go into good detail, so at a lot of the parts you dont know what is exactly going on. My favorite Character and why: Denny because he shoes that football dreams can come true if u just hope. The scene,line, or passage that meant something to me and why: (page.143)" Danny was playing and the crowd was cheering him on." What I would say about this book to someone else: I reccomend reading it because its a great story, and it also shows that dreams do come true. One question i have after reading this book: What happend to the other 4 quarterbacks???? My strongest reason for recommending this book: Great fictional story about a athelte who went from zero to hero.

Chance of a Lifetime

A Review by ZachQuarterback Walk-on is about a kid named Denny who is a senior football player in college. He is a senior and has never played one down in his college career because he is so small. Originally he wanted to be a quarterback but he is so small so he can't. He gets a chance of lifetime in the middle of the football season that he never thought he would get. There were a few things that I liked about this book. The main thing that I liked about this book was that it was a very exciting and interesting book. I think I enjoyed it because it is about sports and I am a huge sports fan. Another thing that I liked about the book was that there was always something going on in the book so it was never boring. The third thing that I liked about the book was that there was a lot of suspense. You didn't know what was going to happen to the starting quarterback when he got in trouble, I didn't expect that the two backup quarterbacks would also get hurt which meant that Denny was going to get to play quarterback. When Denny got to be the starting quarterback you didn't know if he would do good or bad. If you are a person who likes football you should really consider reading this book. It is a good book and fun to read. It always has something interesting going on in it.
