Marriage by Blackmail

Chase McConnell is at his wit's end. He is a widower and his daughter Sarah has already had several operations and is going to need more so that she can walk. He's mortgaged his Rockin' M ranch to the hilt and even though the folks in the small Oregonian town near his ranch want to help, Chase is too proud to accept charity. To make matters worse, his father-in-law, the very wealthy Tup Hewitt, has never forgiven Chase for marrying his daughter and he blames Chase for his daughter's death. Tup wants his granddaughter and it looks like if Chase doesn't get himself a wife fast, he'll lose Sarah. Prairie Skye, conceived during a protest demonstration, is the ultimate in your face kind of person and she strongly believes in the right to protest. So when she is held up in a traffic jam because of protesters, picketing against Chase McConnell selling off part of his property to developers, who they believe will ruin their small town atmosphere. She jumps out of her car and riles up the protesters, just as they were going home. The sheriff, a good friend of Chase's and at Chase's urging, arrests Prairie and charges her with a billion and one crimes. She is furious and afraid. It's all a bluff, but she doesn't know it. Chase tells her he'll get the sheriff to drop all the charges if she'll marry him in name only and hang around for a couple weeks, just long enough to get the court and Tup off his back and, seeing no other way out, Prairie agrees. However, the arrangement doesn't quite work out as planned and if you want to find out more, you're going to have to buy this excellent romance. I must say that usually I don't like arranged marriage stories, but this one I liked a lot and I think you will too.
