Level 5, Grade 5: Scope and sequence includes factoring, improper fractions, common and uncommon denominators, and multiplying decimals. Teach math lessons through the creative means of a life story... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Level 5 is the last level of Master Books math that follows the pattern of one lesson, 5 exercises per week. The first six weeks are review of the concepts covered in Level 4. Weeks 7-30 flush out new concepts. The final six lessons review the new concepts for this level and could be optionally used over the summer to keep the concepts fresh. New concepts that are covered include: division with 2-digit divisors and building on the fraction concepts that were learned in level 4 by working with fractions with uncommon denominators in a variety of ways. Multiplying fractions is reviewed and dividing fractions is introduced, including more work with decimals. Factors are taught. A manipulative section is included at the back of the book as well as solutions. The story of the Stevens’ family continues at the beginning of each lesson. Overall the curriculum is less colorful with less visuals, helping to transition the child to the higher levels of math. For an older child who is right at level 5 this may not be a problem. However for a younger child who is working ahead in math, they may still appreciate seeing more color and visuals.
