Center's best novel yet

I read Get Lucky (the ebook on my phone) over the weekend. Normally it takes me months to get through a book, but luxuriating in the pleasure of reading Get Lucky became my number one priority for three days. While Tina Fey and Amy Poehler's film Baby Mama got people talking about surrogacy, Get Lucky actually fleshes out what that experience might actually be like. I don't want to spoil the fun, so just know that it is highly unlikely anyone will be disappointed with this book.

Made my heart jump

I've read all of Katherine Center's books but this one is by far my favorite. I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend it.

She Just Keeps Getting Better and Better

Katherine Center just keeps getting better and better. I LOVED this book!!!! If you've ever had a sister or even a best friend, you'll recognize these people and their relationships. I love that Katherine writes such real characters. I feel like I know these people and can relate to their lives, even though they're nothing like mine. This is definitely a book to read and share.

Can't wait to read more from Katherine Center

I received this book through the LibraryThing Early Reviewer program. Get Lucky is the story of Sarah Harper, a young New York professional who accidentally gets herself fired from her job which happened to be her whole life. She then flees home to Texas to hide out with her sister, lick her wounds and figure out what's next. When she gets home she discovers that her sister has a problem of her own and she devises what seems like the perfect plan for them both. Of course we all know it can't work out that easily. The plot rolls on from there and is a thoroughly enjoyable story that does not disappoint. I loved all the characters -- especially a few of the minor ones and all-in-all this book made for a well-told, colorful story. I couldn't put the book down and was sad when it was over. It is a perfect vacation book, airplane book, or really anytime book. I will definitely read more from Katherine Center.

Sisters: Supportive and Sassy

Get Luckyby Katherine Center is a wonderful story of what it means to be a sister, a friend, and family. High-power advertised executive Sarah loves her life in New York as much as she loves talking several times a week on the phone to her sister, sharing highs, lows, and the minutiae of her life. Her sister Mackie lives with her husband Clive in their hometown of Houston, TX, each working to build their own business and trying for six years to have a baby. Sarah describes her relationship with Mackie: I should mention that my sister and I were close. We weren't best friends exactly, thought-because a best friend is a person you choose. A best friend, in most cases, is a temporary person, too, until she moves away, or gets a promotion and starts working too hard, or just drifts off. Friends depend on a certain amount of convenience. With friends, you have to have their number handy, or work in the same office, or live in the same city. With sisters, none of that matters. When Sarah suddenly loses her job at the same time Mackie and Clive have decided to stop fertility treatments, things just fall into place when Sarah offers to carry their baby as a surrogate. While getting back on her feet professionally, Sarah lives with Clive and Mackie, putting the sisters in the same city and same house for the first time in over 10 years. As a sister who moved across the country and lived with my sis and BIL for a time, I could see this one coming from the start! Mackie and Sarah's relationship begins to change as Mackie fusses about what Sarah eats, how much exercise she gets, and how she spends her days. Sarah begins avoiding her sister, sleeping late, skipping family meals, and taking a job with the Historical Society, helping them with their efforts to save a local library. Both sisters notice the change, but don't talk about it, and after giving birth, Sarah continues to avoid Mackie, until they are brought together is some very funny circumstances on the roof of the historical library and are able to talk about their changed relationship and roles. Katherine Center's Get Lucky is a touchingly funny, sometimes poignant story of these two sisters who are each others' best friend by distance, learning to rework their relationship and individual lives when they are suddenly living together.
