Book Overview

Discusses the nature of hypnosis and its possibilities in the fields of medicine, psychology, dentistry, and law enforcement. Stereotyped by cinema and television is the classic induction technique of a swinging pendulum or a pocket watch waved back and forth in front of the eyes of the subject. While professionals may be able to induce hypnosis using a variation of this technique, the practice of swinging a pendulum seems to be somewhat rare. Leslie M. LeCron writes, "Gadgets of one kind or another are sometimes used in inductions, although they are quite unnecessary." He recommends induction techniques involving combinations of the following: guided imagery, visualization, counting backwards, eye fixation, breath control and slightly swaying the subject's upper body in a slight clockwise circle (The Complete Guide to Hypnosis, pp. 63-71). Human society is now polarizing into division between the influencers and the influenced, the programmers and the programmed, those in the know and those out of it. The trend is toward division into subjects and operators- at worst, into hypnotic predators and hypnotic prey. (The prey may unconsciously long to move up and become predators.) There has been an associated revolution in attitude toward trance. In 1971, LeCron wrote, "Where it was not at all unusual twenty years ago to have a patient refuse hypnotic treatment, now this is a very rare occurrence..." (LeCron, The Complete Guide to Hypnosis, p. 223) In 1997, most persons enter inductive settings with even greater abandon. This description may be from another edition of this product.

Complete Guide to Hypnosis

This book helped me to get over my Panic attacks. What I learned in this book still helps me years later to make discussions. I have learned to communicate with my subconscious and that is great.

A Helpful Overview of Hypnosis.

The Complete Guide to Hypnosis is a great start for anybody wanting a general overview of hypnosis. The book is a little dated and sounds sexist at times, but most of the information presented is still very applicable to the present. The most useful section to me was the section on self hypnosis. LeCron teaches the reader how to induce a deep state of hypnosis and how self hypnosis can be used in many helpful ways.

I've read Dr. Leslie Lecron before . .

I read a book by Dr. Leslie Lecron "many" years ago and it changed my life! I followed his instructions to the tee and one thing I accomplished was a lifetime free of headaches! It has been many years since I read that book and I can honestly say I have never had a headache since. Also, the information he gave taught me to come to a place of complete relaxation whereby I was so very calm and relaxed and was making better,...

Down to earth information and recommendations.

Leslie M. LeCron is the author of several hypnosis books and this one lives up to it's title. He takes you through the information of hypnosis, how it works, how it can help you, what it can and cannot do, a bit of history and information on how to use it yourself. The style is a bit dry at times and you have to work at it to keep going through a couple of the chapters but if you're willing to study the book and take his advice...
