Blame It on the Blackout was hot enough to singe fingers

Courtesy of CK2S Kwips and Kritiques Peter Reynolds is one of the best computer experts in the business, known for his talent for fixing bugs and creating exciting video games. What people don't know though is that Lucy Grainger is his life saver. She's his assistant and there is no one better at keeping Peter on track. Another thing people don't know, Peter himself included in that category, is that Lucy is madly in love with him, though she knows they can never be together. He's a playboy, terrified of commitment and Lucy is a marriage and babies kind of woman. Then one night at a charity gala, a blackout traps Lucy and Peter in an elevator. For one night, Lucy can have all she's ever desired... and that changes everything. Heidi Betts sure knows how to pack the sexual tension into her stories! Blame It on the Blackout was hot enough to singe fingers. Yet she also blends in just enough humor to keep the tension from becoming overwhelming and lighten things up a bit. Lucy is absolutely crazy about Peter, but afraid that if he knew how she felt, their easy working relationship would be ruined. She has spirit though and isn't afraid to let it out when necessary. She also is enough of a nurturer that all she wants is to make peter's life easier. Peter is so oblivious to Lucy that he's adorable. Since he is already easily distracted with whatever current project has his attention that it takes a while for him to realize what he has in Lucy. Granted, there were a few times I wanted to tell both Lucy and Peter to wake up and pay attention to each other's behavior, but this added enough to the story to provide suitable conflict. They did have their reasons for hiding their feeling and if they'd spilled everything to each other, but the story wouldn't have been the same if they had. That refusal to expose their feelings also sure helped to set up some amusing scenes here and there. © Kelley A. Hartsell, January 2008. All rights reserved.

Sweet Story

Peter is a successful computer software designer and technician who has built his business from the ground up...he however is hopeless at taking care of himself. Convinced he would be as bad a father and husband as his own father was, he's still single with only the occasional fling. Lucy, Peter's personal assistant for the past two years, keeps his home, office and life organized. Peter couldn't make it without her. Secretly Peter and Lucy are attracted to one another but are unaware of how the other one feels. When Lucy joins Peter at a charity function they are stuck in an elevator. Peter, who is clausterphobic, starts panicing and all Lucy can think to do is kiss him to calm him down. Things get out of hand and they end up having unprotected sex in the elevator. Peter has to admit, he kind of hopes Lucy is pregnant, although he is terrified he will be a failure as a father. He is even more terrified Lucy will quit, he'd rather have her in his life as his secretary than not in his life at all. When she suggests they go back to normal he agrees. Lucy is in love with Peter, but doesn't think she can just accept a casual sexual relationship. This is a sweet love story although the formula seems a little overused and unoriginal...secretary is secretly in love with the boss--its been done so many times. Still fairly good book.

Just what I'm looking for in a romance!

Lucy Grainger has been in love with her boss Peter Reynolds almost since she came to work for him two years ago, but he's never seemed to see her as anything more than the best personal assistant he's ever had. Lucy's wrong, Peter has noticed her and has been tempted. But he knows that she's not the love `em and leave `em type, so he's been satisfied to have her as his friend and employee. That's about to change due to a blackout. When Lucy and Peter attend a business gala together then get stuck in an elevator during a blackout, they give into the passion that has always simmered between them. Now that they have brought passion into their relationship, where do they go from here? Blame It On The Blackout is another great Silhouette Desire from Heidi Betts. Ms. Betts skillfully drew me into Lucy and Peter's relationship, deftly expressing the depth of a two year friendship transforming into love. I read Silhouettes for the short romantic stories and Ms. Betts is quickly becoming a Silhouette author that I will be looking for to deliver just what I want: romance with a great happy ending that leaves me totally satisfied! Bedding the Boss!!

[...] In the pitch blackness, trapped between floors, Peter Reynolds had almost convinced himself that the woman in the suddenly too-cramped-for-comfort elevator car was not off-limits...and that the desperate passion they shared would not change everything. But then the lights came on, and Peter knew that he'd crossed more than one line. For Lucy Grainger was his secretary...and now, quite possibly, pregnant. If Peter were any other man, Lucy would make the perfect wife and mother to his children. But he was not the marrying kind for reasons Lucy could never understand. Yet, if that were true, why was he secretly hoping that the stick turned blue? (end book summary). Lucy has always been attracted to Peter - her handsome, successful boss, but she thinks he doesn't see her like that because he hasn't given her any indication. She has finally given up all hope of any kind of relationship between them after coming to work at his home office countless mornings to find different women leaving his home and his bed! What she doesn't realize is that Peter has some issues about relationships, and that he is deliberately fighting the fierce attraction he feels for her because he doesn't want to lose the best assistant he has ever had. One night they end up stuck in an elevator & she kisses him to take his mind off his crippling claustrophobia - one hot kiss leads to an explosive tryst in the elevator that changes things between them forever. Great, steamy read!
