What if every exit led to another life?
On a patio outside an elegant ballroom, Tom desperately begs his wife Jeanette for one more chance to save their marriage. She finally agrees, and together they enter the ballroom. Jeanette finds a table while Tom steps into the adjoining bar to get their drinks. But when he tries to return, he can't.
He can see Jeanette sitting only feet away - yet some invisible barrier keeps him trapped inside the bar. Two mysterious men laugh at his panic and tell him he is now where he belongs. When Tom insists he is an architect with a home, a wife, and a real life waiting for him, they tell him to check his identification.
Nothing matches: The name. The address. The life. Nothing
Worst of all, they warn him never to go through the strange exit doors scattered throughout. They once saw someone do it - That person was never seen again.
Desperate to escape the empty existence closing around him, Tom finally risks everything and walks through one of the forbidden exits.
Gunfire erupts.
A young woman is screaming for him to move while bullets tear through the air. Tom suddenly finds himself armed with a badge and a gun, living the life of a police officer with no memory of how he got there. According to Bug, they have been partners for years.
As Tom and Bug uncover corruption inside their own department, they are forced to run for their lives. But another escape changes everything yet again. During a terrorist attack, Tom boards a train that is itself another exit door - leaving Bug behind in a hail of gunfire.
Tom awakens once more, this time on the floor of his university office as a college professor.
Yet memories from the other lives remain.
Jeanette continues reaching for him through dreams, temptations, and emotional pleas to come back to her. Meanwhile, his growing bond with Bug feels just as real... and just as impossible to abandon.
