There's a lot going on in the book-to-screen world right now. We're excited to watch, but first we want to read (or even reread), because, as we all know, the book is (almost) always better. Here are thirteen of the books that inspired the latest, greatest adaptations. Order your copy of the source material so you can read before you watch.

Heart of the Hunter by Deon Meyer

Streaming now on Netflix

Six-foot five-inch Thobela "Tiny" Mpayipheli was once a feared assassin and freedom fighter. Now, in post-apartheid South Africa, he's happy to have a quiet life as a motorcycle mechanic. But his old training kicks in when he's asked to help a trusted friend who's been taken hostage. The film adaptation of the South African thriller stars Bonko Khoza, Connie Ferguson, and Tim Theron.

The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen

Streaming now on HBO

The narrator in this gripping Pulitzer Prize-winning espionage novel is a half-French, half-Vietnamese army captain living in the U.S. after the Fall of Saigon. While building his new life, he is secretly reporting back to his communist superiors in Vietnam—a double agent. The limited series stars Hoa Xuande, Robert Downey Jr. (in several different roles), and Sandra Oh.

Delicate Condition by Danielle Valentine

American Horror Story: Delicate Part 2 is streaming now on Hulu

The haunting novel behind the newest season of American Horror Story pays homage to Rosemary's Baby. After actress Anna Alcott finally manages to get pregnant, she becomes increasingly convinced that sinister forces are messing with her mind . . . and maybe her pregnancy. The robust cast features Emma Roberts, Denis O'Hare, Billie Lourd, Kim Kardashian, and Cara Delevinge.

Under the Bridge by Rebecca Godfrey

Premiering on Hulu April 17

The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris

Premiering on Peacock May 2

This is the vivid, harrowing real-life story of Lale Sokolov, a Jewish prisoner tasked with tattooing ID numbers on prisoners' arms in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. When he meets Gita, a trembling young woman waiting in line for his services, Lale vows to survive the camp and marry her. The series stars Anna Próchniak, Melanie Lynskey, and Harvey Keitel.

Turtles All The Way Down by John Green

Coming to Max May 2

Aza Holmes never intended to be a detective. But her best friend, Daisy, is determined to investigate the disappearance of fugitive billionaire Russell Pickett, and collect the hundred-thousand-dollar reward. So Aza agrees to join her. But it's hard to navigate it all, while also managing her OCD. The feature film, directed by Hannah Marks, stars Isabela Merced and Cree Cicchino.

Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

Premiering on Apple TV+ May 8

"Are you happy with your life?" Those are the last words Jason Dessen hears before the kidnapper knocks him unconscious. When he awakens, a man he's never met smiles down at him and says, "Welcome back, my friend." The series based on this mind-bending thriller stars Taron Egerton, Jennifer Connelly, Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, and Dayo Okeniyi.

Force of Nature by Jane Harper

Force of Nature: The Dry 2 comes to theaters May 10

When five colleagues are forced to go on a corporate retreat in the wilderness, they reluctantly pick up their backpacks and head into the woods. One woman doesn't come back. And each of her companions tells a slightly different story about what happened. Eric Bana (The Dry) returns in the film adaptation of the gripping second installment in the Aaron Falk series.

Romancing Mr. Bridgerton by Julia Quinn

Bridgerton's third season premiers on Netflix May 16

The fourth novel in the saucy Bridgertons series serves as the inspiration for season three of sizzling adaptation from Shonda Rhimes. Each Regency-set romance focuses on one of eight close-knit siblings from one family in London's high society. This one, starring Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton, features the love story between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington.

Cold Storage by David Koepp

Coming to theaters May 17

This chilling thriller is the debut novel from the renowned screenwriter behind such hits as Jurassic Park and Mission Impossible. It's a wild and terrifying bioterrorism adventure about three strangers who must work together to contain a highly contagious, deadly organism that could destroy all of humanity. Liam Neeson and Joe Keery star in the film adaptation.

Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams

Coming to Hulu June 7

Queenie Jenkins is a twenty-five-year-old Jamaican British woman living in London, straddling two cultures and slotting neatly into neither. As she careens from one questionable decision to another, she finds herself asking the questions today's woman must face in a world trying to answer them for her. Dionne Brown stars as in the upcoming series.

The Watchers by A. M. Shine

Coming to theaters June 14

You can't see them. But they can see you. Mina is a young artist who gets stranded when her car breaks down at the edge of an extensive, immaculate forest in western Ireland. After finding shelter, she becomes trapped alongside three strangers and stalked by mysterious creatures each night. M. Night Shyamalan produces the feature film starring Dakota Fanning.

Presumed Innocent by Scott Turow

Premiering on Apple TV+ June 14

Rusty Sabich, family man and the number-two prosecutor of Kindle County, is handed an explosive case—the brutal murder of a woman who happens to be his former lover. Then a shocking turn of events suddenly transforms him from the accuser into the accused. Previously adapted into a 1990 Harrison Ford film, the new David E. Kelley-led series stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Negga.

It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover

Coming to theaters June 21

Lily has had to work hard to get where she is. When she meets Ryle, a gorgeous neurosurgeon, it seems too good to be true. But Ryle isn't the easiest person to love and questions about her relationship start to creep in. When her first love suddenly reappears in her life, everything she has built with Ryle is threatened. The much-anticipated film stars Blake Lively and Jenny Slate.
