One-Upmanship Made Easy...

Looking for a little edge in conversation or writing? Want to one-up your friends? "Wordsmanship: A Dictionary" by Claurene duGran, is a handy and fun little book with big words, that'll have everyone saying "Huh?" and running to their dictionaries. Or just use as a fun way to improve your vocabulary and maybe impress your friends a little. But use with caution, you may want to create a "tracasserie"(annoyance) with your buddies, but you surely don't want to make your editor "mattoid"(insane). You know that neighbor of yours who is always "jactitation"(boasting) of his lawn? Tell him "Our agrostologist"(gardener) comes once a week with his two assistants." He'll be so busy trying to figure out what you said to him, he'll forget about the yardwork. Or next time you are at a gathering where everyone is standing around talking in the usual boring conversations. Just say, "It's a pity, but there appears to be a nimiety of gormless microcephalics in that organization. Go On! Say It" Nobody will ever know that you said, " It's a pity, but there appears to be an overabundance of dull pin-heads in that organization." And Reviewers can have some fun with this...Give your reviews "haecceity"(unquie quality). This book will have you making everyday words sound "dithyrambic"(eloquent). Check the "advertence"(attentiveness) of a group when making a speech or talking to a class. "Adhibit"(Apply) a few of these synonyms to your next essay and see if anyone in your writing workshop can follow that! There are some sound words of advice though. The Author does not recommend using these words in conversation with the police, a civil servant or anyone bigger then you. LOL. Also know that there will be the occasional person who will actually admit, they have no idea what you just said. For those rare occasions, be prepared to explain yourself! And Reviewers, you may find this book a help in giving your reviews "haeccity"(unique quality), for things that have been said a thousand different times already. Just like a dictionary, look up the words you want to improve upon. You'll get the new word, the part of speech and a nice little sentence for an example.You won't find every single word in the English language here(the book is only 85 pages of synonyms), but you'll have a great time with the ones listed.There are also some fun illustrations of the words in use. There is also an index at the back, that is the reverse. It will take you to the simpler word. But as the Author also says, that of course is just for novices in the game of "wordsmanship". None of the quoted words I used were in it's dictionary" Good thing I had my "Wordsmanship" dictionary handy! But I have no excuse for the rest.
