I hate this book!

Everytime I go to the index and expect to be disapointed with a chapter of fluff and marketing speel I find myself reading the topic then the chapter then the next and hightlighting and bookmarking. I will never get to the all whitepapers now. This is not a cookbook. It is a text of insights, opinions and suggestions for anyone tackling an AD design of ANY size. What a refreshing and excellently crafted technology book! I didnt think it was possible.

The best book there is

I think that I've been looking through all of the current books on directory service architecture and planning. And I'm confident that this is the best book there is at present. While two of the 20 chapters in the book do include a few examples that may seem a bit dated due to them being based on RC1, this really doesn't mean anything to anyone, but the people that might be under the false impression that this book also will tell them how to configure and install Windows 2000 Server. Anyway, whatever way you may see things, the 670 pages (which by the way is far more than what you'll find elsewhere) is just what you'll need to understand and plan for Active Directory. So until a better book might come along, I'll keep this one handy.

Easy Reading

This technical book reads like a novel. Morten Nielsen has taken good sound technical information and presented it in a way that is very easy reading. This is the type of book you take out on the back porch start reading and get lost in. What a wonderful change compared to most technical books I read. The technical information contained in this book is right on. Mr. Nielsen has done a wonderful job presenting solutions to the issues you will face when planning a Windows 2000 implementation. This book is a must have if you are going to implement Windows 2000 in your organization.

Excellent info on the higher end of Win2000

Mr. Nielsen's book is excellent. I needed a quick and complete intro to Active Directory and its implementation and this definitely fills the bill. For 30 bucks, it is a real bargain. He seems to have really gone over the Microsoft Official Curriculum and broken some fingernails getting a Win2000 network up and running. Where MS gives you a paragraph, Mr. Nielsen may give you two pages. This is good. There is not much here on Win2000 Professional or mundane stuff like printing, but that is fine.

At last - a Windows 2000 book worth buying!

It's still relatively early for 700 page books to be coming out for Windows 2000. I have bought three so far and none of them had been much use. It was with trepidation that I picked up this guide to Windows 2000. Imagine my surprise when Morten Strunge Nielsen managed to pull it off. This guide is truly a great read. It's packed full of information on Active Directory fundementals and design guidelines. Those plowing through white papers (people like me) should take a step back and pick up this book. You won't be disapointed. And for the price, well it's a steal.
