A Classic Beginner's Guide to North American Wildflowers

After buying the "Golden Guide to Insects" in the 1950s I eagerly awaited new titles in the series. The followed in fairly rapid succession- Birds, Reptiles and Amphibians, Trees, Fish, Mammals, etc. All had some merit, but I was especially enamored (after the insect guide) of Zim's "Golden Guide to Wildflowers." Incomplete as it was and is, it is a solid beginning for any natural history oriented youngster. The illustrations were fascinating to me and I remember some of them to this day, especially orchids, Indian paintbrush, violets, and sunflowers. You could not give a kid interested in natural history a better book at the price. It will lead them on into the wonder of living things and make them observant in ways few people are. A person fascinated by plants, birds or insects will always find something of interest no matter where they go.
