Not as pictured!

First off, I love this story. But when I buy a book I am very particular about what the cover looks like. When I am sent a book that is not what is pictured this is upsetting. This is twice in the same order.

Who does this?

I had no idea that people hunted racoons in this horrible and stupid fashion. If this story was based on reality I am even more appalled. I grew up in Ohio and hunters just shoot the racoons and have never heard of having to cut down a tree (wasteful) and then let your dogs maul the coon to death, just horrible. And this is supposed to be a kids story? Plus you risk your dogs getting maimed or worse, as happened in the story. When I got to the part about Old Dan dying I just stopped reading. I wouldn't reccomend this book to anyone much less a young person. And definitely NOT to a dog lover.

Beautiful story

My son LOVED this book. He's 11 years old and he couldn't put it down after starting. This is the first time thats happened, so I was very excited! He is going to read Old Yeller next!

A run in the rivers of the Ozarks.

A tale of Billy, Old Dan and Little Ann. It does a great job of putting you in the Ozarks, you could almost see the coons running around the river bed. It has so many great moments, some happy, some sad, but all of them heartfelt. Highly recommended for kids.

Timeless classic....thoroughly enjoyed even after multiple reads!

Personally enjoyed and loved sharing with my children!

never got the book

charged me but never got the book

The copyright date is the early 1960’s which explains the biases. But putting that aside, the book w

The main character is intent on buying 2 dogs after coming across an ad. He turns out to be quite creative and industrious on how to raise the money. His relationships with the dogs grow and the three become inseparable. It is a very adventurous storyline with lots of human development in between the lines. It reminds me of the classic TV show A Christmas Story. Both are great for audiences in 4th grade on up.

Heartwarming and Touching

I absolutely love this book. It was heartwarming and I love the characters so much, and the way the story played out was incredible. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a touching, and heartwarming book, it was such a great experience reading this.

Once upon a time when I was a little girl

I hate it when a reviewer gives the story away, so I won't. Safe to say, though, that when I was a little girl, I read a book in one night, under the covers with a flashlight. That book, of course, was WTRFG. I just re-read it again after 20 some-odd years. I am surprised to find that I cried as hard as I did as when I was 9. I was once again, so engrossed that I read it in one night, ignoring the fact that I had to work the next day. It is a beautiful story, a timeless one. A childhood favorite. I am amazed that it didn't win a Newberry Honor medal, or some other kind of award. This is one of the books that helped instill a loving of reading at an early age. A GEM, don't miss it. A story about a young boy on the brink of manhood and his love for his pups....whom he worked so hard for. You will laugh and cry, at age 9, 29, or 99. Buy it for your kids, and rea it for yourself.

I know where the red fern grows.

In my opinion this is a wonderful book. It shows what a great place the Ozarks are and how great it would be to grow up there. It is a very intereasting book with great uses of imagery, similie, metaphors, and personification. It shows a great love and friendship between a boy and his dogs. Billy never knew when he bought those puppies how much they would help him. 4SAN

I thought that Where the red Fern Grows was a wonderful, heart warming book. I felt that the author really felt as if he were the characters. It was like he was telling the story from a different perspective. Wilson Rawls did an excellent job writting this novel. I would definatly reccomend this book to others. Especially children beetween the ages of 9 and 12. This book is a great way to learn how much you have, and how much you should be thankful for. It also teaches people how much times have changed and how lucky we are to have all the things we have now.

simply everything you could want in a book

This book is without a doubt the most phenominal book I have ever read. The first time I read it, I fell in love with it. I think I've read it twelve times. I'll never get tired of Old Dan and Little Ann. The story is so touching and adventurous and loving and heartbreaking all at the same time, you can't help but feeling like a wet towel when you are done. You get so involved. I recommend this book to anyone of all ages. If you don't, you will be missing out on one of the all time great books. Trust me, you will enjoy.
