Voodoo Queen

By Candace Adams

In the humid, shadow-drenched streets of New Orleans, whispers travel faster than the river. They speak of Jean Marie Beauregard, a woman who calls herself simply Marie. Draped in silk, bone, and superstition, she has built a following that borders on worship. To her devotees, she is the reborn spirit of a legendary voodoo queen. To herself, she is something far more powerful, and dangerous.

Marie believes she carries not just the memory of a past life, but its unfinished business. She claims the spirits speak through her, but what answers her call feels older, darker, and hungrier than anything rooted in tradition. Rituals grow more extreme. Offerings turn from symbolic to sacrificial. The line between faith and fear begins to blur.

Alina Rousseau is a restless young woman searching for meaning after a lifetime of loss. Drawn in by Marie's charisma and the promise of a purpose, Alina becomes her apprentice and shadow. Under Marie's guidance, Alina learns the language of spirits, the power of intention, and the intoxicating pull of control. But as her abilities deepen, so do the cracks in her perception.

Visions begin to plague her, violent, apocalyptic, and disturbingly personal. She begins to feel something awakening inside her, something vast and merciless. Marie encourages it, feeding Alina's transformation with whispers of destiny and divine darkness. But as the rituals intensify, Alina comes to a horrifying realization: the presence within her isn't a gift but something much darker.

Now trapped between devotion and terror, Alina must confront the truth about Marie. Is she truly a reincarnated queen wielding forbidden power, or a conduit for something far worse? Can Alina break through her spell before the city, and her soul are consumed?

In a battle of will, spirit, and identity, Alina explores the seductive nature of the power, the fragility of belief, and the terrifying question, what if the darkness you fear is the very thing your're destined to become?
