How was Jesus Christ seen by his contemporaries? How did ordinary people interpret what they saw and heard of him?
Here we are invited to see through their eyes in 25 fictional short stories, each written in the first person. We hear the voices of a range of characters, such as a midwife, an exorcist, a physician, a religious expert, a spy, a bandit, an orphan and a waitress. They relate their encounter with Jesus as they piece together the clues and try to understand who he is and what he means.
Each story is followed by related quotations from the Bible, comments about the historical background drawing on the work of scholars, and a brief spiritual reflection.
