Unlike the Lilies: Doukhobor Textile traditions in Canada Dorothy K Burnham 1986 weaving, clothing, household linens, beds and bedding, preparation of textile fibers "The Christian church has never been short of disputatious schisms. Those in Tsarist Russia in the 16th and 17th century eventually led to the establishment of a sect which claimed to want nothing more than to revert to what they perceived its origins to have been namely : pacifism, brotherly love, and sharing. After a great many years of uncertainty, often persecuted, they were eventually allowed to cross the water and settle in NW Canada. Some 7500 persons made the trip in the closing months of the 19th C., and their descendants remain to this day in the area where they first settled. They brought their textile traditions with them, and this book celebrates these in a most agreable manner. It is a well-illustrated monograph on a very little known corner of the world of textiles. "
