Un Peace Operations

This study examines the views of the residents of the city of Bunia on MONUSCO's actions regarding its peacekeeping operations in Ituri Province-that is, what the population thinks about the roles of the UN mission. This study is based on the observation that, since 2012, when rebels from the March 23 Movement entered the city of Goma, a popular uprising ensued, with attacks on United Nations mission facilities and other agencies of the United Nations system... thus forcing personnel to seek refuge at Camp Ndoromo, at Murongo Airport in Bunia, at the mission's headquarters, at the logistics base, as well as in Kampala, the Ugandan capital, and in Europe... The second incident occurred when a mission convoy traveling from Beni in North Kivu-carrying equipment belonging to the contingents-was pursued by young people from the city of Bunia, who accused the mission of transporting bladed weapons to create insecurity in Ituri, a phenomenon similar to that caused by the ADF-NALU; similar to that in northern North Kivu. The third incident relates to the attack carried out against the MONUSCO delegation and the Ituri Provincial Government in Kasenyi.
