Two "fine ladies" wake up one morning on the wrong side of the bed. They argue through breakfast and bicker over a string of beads. When the beads break, one fine lady leaves, and the other fine lady... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I've checked this out from the library twice and have kept renewing it because my girls, ages 2, 4, and 7 just love the book. It's time to buy it! The story sounds just like you'd see 2 young girls playing - dressed up in their finest clothes, perhaps mommy's high heels and hats, inviting their guest the teddy bear to come and have tea. Only in the story, it is a real bear who becomes their friend. The pictures are very friendly, the story is pleasant, the words are not overly difficult, but not boring either. I find it a delightful book. Two thumbs up.
A Perfect Step-One Book

I wish ALL first-step readers were this good! I went shopping for some step-ones for my 5 year old who is just getting comfortable with sounding her way through simple words but gives up easily when she encounters strange constructions or too much text. The first book I picked up was Two Fine Ladies. It was perfect -- large print, short text, challenging words that are easy to sound out, and a story my daughter could relate to. Unfortunately, the next ten step-ones I picked up were not at all ok. They were either heavy with text, full of hard-to-sound-out words, or about older kids and their issues. I finally added one more book to my pile, heavy on text but relatively simple. My duaghter read Two Fine Ladies with pleasure and worked her way through the other one. Guess which one she keeps proudly re-reading?? Two Fine Ladies. I wish there were more like it!
