The American Society of Agronomy serves agronomy and agronomists over a broad range of specialties, and with a variety of media. Agronomy has been defined as the theory and practice of field crop production and soil management. It is applied not only to plant and soil interactions for food and fiber production, but also to other operations involving plant growth and soil management. Turfgrass management and science, the subject of this volume, is an example of agronomy in action off the farm. Turfgrass is a successor to a successful earlier monograph, Turfgrass Science. It joins the ranks of outreach publications of the American Society of Agronomy. It will be a technical reference for years to come, and will serve the full gamut of research, teaching, and technical personnel who work with turf.
