A great introduction for your kids to the G1 Transformers universe!

If you're a Dad who loves Transformers and wants to introduce them to your kids, buy this book! This is an awesome book for young children, ages 3-5, and is is all about introductions: you learn about who the Autobots and Decepticons are, how the Transformers left Cybertron and crashed on earth, the fight for energon, and who some of the major players are on both sides. My kids are 2 1/2 and they love just looking at the pages while I read. This is an IDW Comics publication, so the art style is defintely G1 (Generation 1, aka, the origional 80s animated show), however, all of the Transformers are drawn in a "superdeformed" style, so they all look a little short and over-proportioned. It's a little odd, but not unlikable. One side note, if you fondly recall the original cartoon, you will probably be asking yourself: "Who is this "Drift" character that is introduced as an Autobot? I don't remember him?" You are remembering correctly: Drift was NOT part of the original G1 Transformers, and was a character recently created in the main comic books storyline, and who has been shoehorned into the G1 continunity. That said, he's a pretty good character. He uses swords instead of guns and transformers into an import racer. He's basically a Ninja, Ex-Decepticon with a dark past but a heart of gold (and my son loves him for it). Unfortunately, as in the G1 tradition, the book introduces some unnamed human kids near the end who are supposed to be "friends" with the Autobots. I guess this is meant to appeal to children, but personally, I dislike mixing humans with my giant robots! However, my kids like pointing them out and relating to them I guess. I highly recommend this book, and have already bought one other copy for my god-son.
