Both dated and eternal material

This was not quite what I thought it would be, being somewhat dated by events and attitudes since 9/11 and the collapse of the economy. The final chapter by Peter Russell is excellent.

These people ar showing us the future

Before reading this book I had not realized how important it is to have a correct worldview because this dictates our attitude towards each other, all living things and the world we live in. If, collectively, we have the wrong worldview, we create many problems for ourselves. Dare I say it? - our current worldview may be the underlying cause of the events of September 11, 2001.This book, published in 1996, is a series of interviews with respected leaders who have concluded that the conventional worldview may be wrong. In many cases there is very strong evidence pointing us in a new direction but we have been slow to accept these findings and make the necessary changes. This should not surprise us because we are no different from the doctors of 100 years ago who were presented with very convincing evidence that a doctor washing hands before moving to the next patient reduced mortality of both mother and child in maternity wards. Doctors fought the evidence tooth and nail and sought to discredit both the evidence and the proponent. Likewise, you and I may be clinging to many outdated world views and this may be creating unnecessary problems for ourselves and for the world we live in.This is an important book for anyone who is concerned about where our present worldview is taking us because Russell E. DiCarlo has conducted 27 interviews with people working in such fields as history, science, religion, philosophy, psychology, medicine, human potential, business, education and economics. These highly intelligent people have usually risen to the top by following the conventional worldview. But now they are telling us "Hey, I had it all wrong!" and usually present enough evidence to show that we would be wise to change. In each field we are being told the equivalent of washing hands reduces mortality. These are our new leaders who are pointing the way to a better understanding of the world we live in and the errors of our conventional worldview. If you have even the slightest nagging discomfort that we have been following an erroneous path, you will find this book a breath of fresh air and you will draw comfort that you are not alone. After a journey that has taken the author through four hundred books, a thousand articles and scores of workshops, the author has distilled the message from those gifted with extraordinary and penetrating insight to provide us with an emerging new world view. Many of the leading edge writers in this volume would agree that the traditional, dominant and prevailing worldview is hopelessly obsolete and is the root cause of the prevailing world crisis. As Marilyn Ferguson, author of the Aquarian Conspiracy, which was one of the most influential books of the 1980s, notes " .... What we in western society think of as being "real" is a very limited view of the world. From time to time, we all have experiences in everyday life that hint all is not what it seems." The chaos we are experiencing is a symptom that the forms we have be

New thoughts in Science, Society, and the Future

An absolutely outstanding text dedicated to presenting new views of Science, Human/Social development, Psychology, Medicine, Education, Business and more. Individual interviews with leading thinkers in their fields--some with controversial views--engage the reader in thought-provoking models of thought, especially in science. Because of the forward-thinking nature of the material, I include a few of the interviews as readings in my "Systems of Thought in Science: How They Shape Our World" undergraduate level course. Why? Because this is a course for novices, many with limited exposure to scientific thought and how potent a force science is in our lives. This text, in conjunction with contemporary, traditional scientific readings and videos, helps students understand future potentialities, and how they may effect the course of human life. In addition--and just as important--the concepts and language are easily understood by lay people, even though they may be complex in themselves. In fact, the only reason I looked this book up today (since I already have my own copy) is that I am considering making this book a required text for the course so that we can incorporate more of the interview/articles within the course.
