Warm Introductory Theology

Fisher Humphreys' "Thinking About God" is a warm and inviting introduction to Christian theology from an evangelical perspective. It is definitely written with the untrained reader in mind and achieves that goal wonderfully. Humphreys mostly avoids technical theological lingo, and on the occasions when he does employ it he gives significant explanation to keep things simple. This book is much less exhaustive than many systematic theology offerings and as a result it is highly readable for the casual user and is enjoyable when read cover-to-cover (unlike most systematic theologies which function better as reference guides). Humphreys gives suggested materials for further reading at the end of each chapter which is helpful. It is worth noting that although Humphreys has geared this book to lay readers it is also informed by good scholarship. Humphreys comes from a Baptist background but employs a wide range of insights and references from serious scholars and thinkers outside of the Baptist realm. This is a great introduction to Christian theology and would work well for personal study or for group use. Recommended.

This is an excellent theological book on Christian topics.

Not an expert Christian Theologian - this book is for you. It's written in a language simple enough to understand for the common man, but yet includes discussions that makes the scholarly person ponder various Christian issues. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and would highly recommend it to anybody interested in learning more about the theology of some of the core underlying beliefs of Christianity.
