The War Within
He survived the bullies, the battles, and the war no one else could see.
You know what it feels like to be invisible. To be surrounded by family yet completely alone. To carry scars that no one asks about and pain that no one acknowledges. Maybe you have been knocked down so many times that staying down starts to feel like the only option. Maybe you are searching for proof that someone, somewhere, made it through the darkness and found peace on the other side.
The first installment in a two-book series, The War Within is the raw, unflinching memoir of Victor Colon, a Puerto Rican boy born with a tongue condition that left him stuttering, silent, and targeted by bullies from his own neighborhood and even his own family. Growing up in the projects of Bristol, Victor fought every day just to exist. When sports gave him a way out, a devastating injury nearly took everything. When the streets came calling, he chose the United States Marine Corps instead, driven by watching his mother struggle. But two combat tours left wounds no surgeon could stitch, and the war inside his mind became the deadliest fight of all. This is a story of resilience forged through fire, a journey from isolation and violence to hard-won peace in a bamboo cafe overlooking a turquoise sea half a world away.
Inside these pages, you will find:
- An honest look at how childhood bullying and family rejection shape the battles we fight as adults
- A firsthand account of military service, combat, and the invisible weight of PTSD
- Proof that no matter how deep the darkness, giving up is never the only option
