simple and concrete language, beautiful illustrations

I found this book at a local bookseller, and was thrilled with its rendition of the Christmas story. It tells the story in simple terms, faithful to the biblical story, explaining all the crucial elements (angels, Mary learning she is to bear God's baby boy, marrying Joseph, travel to Bethlehem by donkey, no room at the inn, the birth, the shepherds, the star, the wisemen). It was a great way to put it all in order and make it a clear, concrete story for my 3-year-old. The illustrations are gorgeous, and many details are historically appropriate (desert landscape, bearded men, etc.). I plan to buy it as a gift for my 4-year-old godsons as well.
