The body of a woman floats into Kylee Kaiser, a brilliant young professor while she fly fishing in the Colorado River. Shortly after, two more bodies seemingly drop out of nowhere near Kylee and her archaeologist/entrepreneur boyfriend, Derek Voda. The bodies have been drained of blood. Worse, Kylee sees an image of herself in a bathroom mirror that looks like her but is different, evil and malevolent, with a snake wrapped around her that attempts to pierce the glass and attack Kylee.Badly shaken, Kylee and Derek move to a house rented by a delightful retired astrophysicist, Milly Weber, a grandmother who in reality is a science consultant to the CIA and a member of a sub-committee of NASA's Planetary Defense Coordination Office. She theorizes Kylee is being stalked through a worm-hole portal by her twin from another universe who is far more dangerous to planet Earth than any fantasy Dracula. Milly determines the alien scientist twin is using the extracted human blood and stem cells not for sustenance but in experiments to determine how best to exterminate the human race using their advanced technology. This upmarket sci-fi novel pulls the reader through terror, narrow escapes, romance and sex to one of the world's most dangerous volcanoes, Mt. Vesuvius in Italy, which threatens to erupt and envelope not only Pompeii once again, but the entire metropolis of Naples. There, the alien strikes another victim as the team begins to asses the enormity of stopping a possible invasion of Earth.The story concludes with a fatal confrontation in an old test tunnel near Last Chance, Colorado, where a local sheriff is confounded by enigmatic deaths.
