The Soul Talkers

The Soul Talkers is a literary Fiction which is mainly a campus novel; but has a significant representation of other elements such as, multiple narrative perspectives, relationship-driven and family saga with a little touch of football and a significant touch of poetry. The Soul Talkers is an annual poetry competition organized for university students that study in the tertiary Institutions in London. Rachael Smith, Larissa Banta and Mahmud Mustapha from the same university are renowned competitors, reaching the later stages of the competition the previous year. The highly conservative Don Cooker, on the other hand, is a novice who is dragged into it by Larissa after impressing as a wordsmith in the Fresh Blood Party, and more remarkably, teasing and embarrassing Rachael Smith in the process. The four students give outstanding performances to reach the semifinals- the first time ever in the competition's history that all semi-finalists are representatives of the same institution. But Mahmud Mustapha is deeply in love with Rachael, who is in love with Don. Rachel's feelings for Don creates a heated rivalry with Larissa because Larissa is also deeply in love with Don. Don now has two talented and beautiful ladies to contend with while staying focused on the competition. And this is further complicated by Rachael's obnoxious and insufferable ex, Pontius Pilate, the British Roman thug as he calls himself, who also develops his own rivalry with Don. These relationships end up creating a complex web of messy interactions and conflicts between them which significantly affects the dynamics of their participation in the competition. The semifinal becomes the most eventful and historic as it becomes catastrophic for one of the four contestants. As the finals of the competition draws near, Rachael does all she can to win Don's heart while the different rivalries in place begin to get cold, especially between the Chelsea-loving Pontius and the Arsenal-loving Don. There was a remarkable turn of events on the day of the finals when Don Cooker may end up winning one, or two or no prize at all as he faces a fierce competitor in an obsessive admirer in Racheal Smith while another admirer burns in hope and emotions as she helplessly supports his final attempt of becoming the poetry champion. How did it end? Find out for yourself.

The Soul Talkers is a 56,000-worded suspenseful, engaging and mind-blowing story that is fast paced and keeps any reader on the edge of their seat from start to finish. The selling point of this fictional work is its immense creativity which is a unique blend of campus football, sports and relationship rivalry, timeless poetry and love saga. It is a perfect holiday companion, family-time instrument, book-club special, young-adult entertainment, soul nourisher, love-trigger, reunion-gossip headliner and top story for every neighbourhood. Adults of all ages, works of life, beliefs, ideologies and class will love this story which also has the potential of becoming a blockbuster if converted to a film.
