Where's the movie???

A friend recommended this book to me, who has worked with the french author, Bernard Uzan. This chapterless novel is an abstract stream of consciousness - jumping time periods and emotions - almost like a poetic version of "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" (minus the drugs)! I think it would translate into an interesting french indie-film.

I became lost in the mind of a genius

I have never read an artists memoir and I didn't know what to expect when I picked up this book, but the fact is, I was definitely shocked. The clarity of his experiences; from the dynamics of his family, to the acquaintances he encounters in every day life, to his struggles with dealing with his personal tragedies, is relevant for all people at any age, in any country, and within any ethnicity. I was listening to a confused artist, within his last breath of life, explaining his struggles as well as his most poignant moments. I became lost in the mind of a genius.

A powerful and well-crafted book

A powerful and well-crafted book that grabs your heart, strangles and twists it and then yanks it out with no warning. Once you start this book you cannot put it down...and once you are finished you need a stiff drink. It was refreshing yet disturbing for an author to have the courage to so vividly portray the most debase and dark thoughts of a person's soul. A soul that is so clearly injured and lost it does not know where to turn. And yet at times you revere this soul, you laugh with it and cry with it, appreciate its wit, and start to identify with all its emotions...if you are strong enough to take a good look at yourself.
