Book Overview

A touching tale of survival All her short life, eleven-year-old Rose Webster has encountered closed doors. Growing up in the slums of London with her siblings, trying to avoid their violent, drunken father, she develops an insatiable thirst for knowledge, and becomes convinced that she and her loved ones deserve better. All Rose has is a quick mind and the will to survive can she open that door and seize the chance to make something of herself? This is the first book in a three-part saga spanning the early twentieth century.

A great story!

Young Rose Webster has lived in the slums of London all of her life. But unlike many people, Rose wants more out of life and she knows that an education is the only to better herself. With the help of friends and the love of Bill she maybe able let that happen. But after years of remembering the past will Rose be albe to move on and will Bill be there with her? "The Open Door" was the first book that I had read by Beryl Matthews and it was really great! Ms. Matthews gives the reader rich and real characters. I can't wait to read more by Ms. Matthews.
