The Nightwatchman: Tales from the Jersey Shore

These stories all take place at the "Jersey shore," as the locals call the beaches in New Jersey. Mr. McGreevy is the nightwatchman at the Victorian Hotel on Long Beach Island, known as LBI. He is an older man of some 70 years, though no one knows for sure. He lives alone in a room in the attic of the hotel. It is the last of the great hotels, which dotted the barrier islands on New Jersey's east coast. During his many years working at the shore, Mr. McGreevy has experienced hurricanes with their wind, rain and waves; shipwrecks, and lifeguards rescuing bathers caught in the surf. Mr. McGreevy was witness to all these happenings and much more during his years on Long Beach Island. He was also part of many famous tales and yarns still being told in the various haunts of LBI by the locals.
