I hated to finish it!

My job requires a great deal of travel, and I am never without a book in hand for the long hours spent in airports and hotel rooms. I usually read a book per trip. This one, however, I savored instead of racing through. It transported me right out of the airport and into a small Florida town, amidst people I would love to count as my own friends. I was sorely disappointed to finish the book, and can only hope Ms. DeVane shares more of her stories with us.

Destined To Become A Best Seller!

I have never written a review before, but this extraordinary novel deserves my time and attention. This story has it all. The "Madhatter's Guide To Chocolate" is intelligently written through the eyes of humor; in fact it's downright hilarious! I was captured from beginning to end. It is full of rich, colorful personalities which interact with heartfelt & 'human' reaction.Rhett DeVane weaves the lives of her Southern character's into a magnificant tapestry filled with life, love & hope. I can't wait for the next novel in the series!

A Beautiful Novel

I read this book in one night! I simply couldn't put it down! Rhett DeVane breathes a life and beauty into her characters that just breaks your heart. It isn't often that I read books like this; I usually have my nose buried in old classics and fairytales. But something about this book really made me feel a twinge of nastalgia, though maybe it was that flower and old beat-up hat on the cover that first caught my eye. I laughed. I cried. I cheered along with the rest of the characters. Most of all, I fell in love with Jake, who reminds me so much of my brother. Ms. DeVane really touched upon his situation in the most tender and poignant of ways. The Madhatter's Guide to Chocolate is a book about life and the way we choose to live it. An excellent read and a beautiful first novel. I look forward to reading more from Rhett DeVane!

Best book in 50 years!

This is a story of country-fried Southern folks who face death, hatred, bigotry, old age and every other human condition and are magically triumphant. Reading this book allows you to have hope that we will overcome and faith that we will embrace each other no matter what our differences. Romantic love, neighborly love, love of family, all love is shown to be the same, just a different flavor.Northern Florida, the Panhandle, is a very unique place and so are the people. You will meet very interesting folks who may seem a bit familiar, even if you are a Yankee. There are many wonderfully humorous stories interwoven within this book and you will laugh out loud....guaranteed. I'm a reader, not a reviewer. I've read at least 2 books a week for 50 years and I can't think of any book that is any better than this one. The Madhatter's Guide to Chocolate by Rhett Devane is a book for your heart, soul and mind. Enjoy it like a warm homemade brownie with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge on top with whipped cream and a cherry.

A Brilliant Read!

This book falls way out of the genre that I am used to reading (sci-fi, fantasy, horror, & true crime), but this book impressed me greatly. It's very down-to-earth, filled with tales of a small Southern town and its people. Being originally south of the Mason-Dixon, it actually made me miss the little town I was born and raised in - no small feat indeed! The characters are incredibly well defined, the story itself is very compelling, and by the end (which came too early in my opinion), you're considering knocking on the author's door, asking for the rest of the story. This is one book you cannot put down once you start reading. In short, this is one hell of a read and worth far more than the $14.95 list price. You really can't put a price on nostalgia, and this book should bring back memories for young and old from all parts of this great nation. And there's some great recipes sprinkled throughout the book. Chocolate lovers will kick themselves if they don't check this out!
