Can't Put This Down! Great SciFi Satire

I knew L. Ron Hubbard wrote many short stories and novellas back in the Thirties and Forties and even read a few of them -- Fear, Ultimate Adventure, Typewriter in the Sky, etc., as they're reprinted in short books by Ace Books and others from the 1970s -- so I thought I knew what to expect. I was wrong. Invaders Plan is a satire on modern American thinking, including drug abuse, drug dealers, homosexuality, planetary pollution & ecology, even Congress! Jettero Heller has been assigned to get the planet ready for invasion by cleaning it up and all that. Soltan Gris (salt & grease, get it?) wants to stop him at all costs and use Earth (Blito P3) as a source of illicit drugs to the rest of the galaxy. I enjoyed the fast pace and the descriptive chapters and could not wait until the next volume came out. Publishers Weekly gave it positive reviews and so on. True, Hubbard is the source of Scientology writing, but there's none of this in this novel -- in fact, it's purposely so, as explained in the Preface (but who reads Prefaces?). Enjoy! Loved the entire series!

I surprised to see some of the more negative scathing reviews! I read this set of books about 10 years ago and remember them as extremely readable and absolute page turners. They stand out as among the most enjoyable and memorable of the "big" books that I have reads, along Dune and Lord of the Rings. The satire is wicked and funny, and some of the observations extremely astute. All through the Bush/Cheney years I kept being reminded of some of the final scenes, especially the reporter who goes around making up outrageous lies that cannot be fought, as well as the scene where the entire episode of the visit to Planet Earth is collectively whitewashed from the populaces' memories by an enormous media production. All very frighteningly true. Highly recommend the set to those who can enjoy a good page-turner without worrying about "2-d characters" and other such literary commentary.

Just sit back and enjoy.

You need to ignore all the nonsense that you have heard about the author and just enjoy the book for what it is. Mission Earth is full of hilarity and wit that most books are lacking. I have enjoyed the series in both book form as well as in audio form and I have to tell you it was time well spent.

What an great book! The entire series is a best seller. Hubbard did it again.

Satire At Its Best

The first book in the Mission Earth series introduces you to the main characters and the premise that an alien race has to save the human race from itself before it destroys the planet thereby spoiling the alien invasion plans. If you want a good laugh at the idiocies of our world read "The Invaders Plan" and then the rest of the series which just get funnier and funnier
